Following approval from Prof. Isa Ali Pantami, Honourable Minister for Communications and Digital Economy, Sokoto State government has sut down telecommunications services in 14 of the 23 Local government areas of the state as part of its plans to curb insecurity in the state.
Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal disclosed the enforcement of the action on Monday.
According to Voice of America (VOA) Hausa Servive, Tambuwal referred to the affected 14 local government areas as the ‘most vulnerable’ to bandits attacks’ in the state.
Parts of the affected areas are: Dange Shuni, Tambuwal, Sabon Birni, Raba, Tureta, Goronyo, Tangaza and Isa local government areas, among others affected in the current shutdown of telecommunications services for consumers.
The Governor stated that the ban of telecoms services in Zamfara State has pushed bandits to intensify attacks on Sokoto due to the successful enforcement of the action in Zamfara.
According to Tambuwal, “due to the ongoing military successes in Zamfara State, the bandits are fleeing to Sokoto,” report stated.
