The Nigerian Police has concluded plans to arraign dismissed Sgt Samuel Philipps of Lagos command for allegedly killing an 18-year-old varsity education seeker, Monsurat Ojuade, in Ijeshatedo axis of Surulere Local Government, Lagos State.
The arraignment decision came after the officer was dismissed after an internal investigation showed that Philipps’ actions were responsible for the teenager’s death.
Philipps will appear before a court on Friday in Lagos.
During the investigations, Philipps was tried for shooting and at the conclusion of the findings, he could not be exonerated from the crime, Adekunle Ajisebutu, Lagos Command spokesperson stated.
During a visit to the family of the deceased, Commissioner of Police, Lagos Command, Hakeem Odumosu, promised to dismiss and prosecute Philipps accordingly.
According to a statement by the police spokesperson, “The Commissioner of Police further sympathises with the bereaved family, and reiterates his earlier promise that justice would be done in this case”.
