PAN Nigeria says it will continue to savour its victory at the recently held Argungu motor rally, where the Peugeot brand emerged the overall winner among vehicles that participated in a show-of-strength contest.
Specifically, Peugeot 508 GT was said to have made an impressive showing at the motor rally, a prelude to the Argungu fishing festival attended by several dignitaries including the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.).
The rally intended for products assembled in Nigeria had PAN Nigeria featuring the Peugeot 301 Allure and the 508 GT Line with the Higer-H5C, a 16-seater bus, also with a 19-seater variant.
All the Peugeot variants, including the new Peugeot pickup 4×4, were displayed at the main Argungu show and a rally in Abuja, a statement by PAN said.
The event held between March 11 and 13 was described as remarkable as it featured major auto brands such as GAC Motors with its GA3S, GS4, GS3 and GA4 variants; Elizade, featuring the JMC pickup and Dongfeng trucks; Kojo Motors with the Yutong buses; Globe Motors, featuring the Hyundai brand and PAN Nigeria, which featured its Peugeot models with Pan-Higer H5C.
The rally, which started in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja and took the team to Nasarawa, Kaduna, Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi states, was Peugeot’s glorious outing as it reportedly brought out the brand’s value, essence and promise before the auto enthusiasts.
The vehicles were to run the race under normal road conditions with the usual road obstacles, observing a speed limit of 120km/hr. And to ensure that the speed limit was well measured, the GPRS kits were fitted to each vehicle.
Also considered in the course of the contest were vehicles with engine capacity not exceeding two litres.
Other considerations were given as vehicle design, general aesthetics and performance.
The Peugeot 508 GT was said to have ticked all boxes and stood out from the pack.
PAN Nigeria said it made a very categorical statement with its outstanding performance as the overall best winner of the motor rally.
It gave the name of the winning driver of the 2020 Argungu Motor Rally, who drove its Peugeot 508 GT, as Shima Shimbe.
Managing Director/CEO of the auto company, Mr Ibrahim Tanko, said, “PAN Peugeot 508 was adjudged the overall best winner because it met all the criteria stipulated by the organisers of the rally.”
He stated that the auto firm decided to participate in the contest to demonstrate its support for the aspiration of the National Automotive Design and Development Council in proving the importance of the nation’s auto policy.
Tanko said it also provided an opportunity to present all locally manufactured vehicles to the executive and the legislature at the elaborate “Show and Tell” media ceremony. The PAN boss commended the organisers for the package and overall success of the programme.
PAN Nigeria’s Head of Marketing, Mr Joseph Adesanya, said the auto firm featured in the motor rally in order to showcase its capabilities as a foremost manufacturer and car assembler in Nigeria.
Commenting on being the overall winner, Adesanya said the brand had been customer-centric in its design, adding that it was not surprising that all the vehicles it presented excelled in the contest.
He gave the brand’s unique selling points as performance, comfort, fuel economy, adaptability and safety, adding that they were the things that worked in its favour and enabled the clear win by the Peugeot 508 GT.
He also listed ruggedness and durability as other major attractions of the Peugeot brand.
