Naby Keita has won his second man-of-the-match award in as many games for Guinea as his impressive Africa Cup of Nations campaign continues.

The 26-year-old wore the armband for his country as he faced off against Liverpool team-mate, and Senegal skipper, Sadio Mane, as the countries played out a hard-fought 0-0 draw on Friday afternoon.

Despite Senegal boasting more recognisable names in their starting line-up, Keita was pivotal as Guinea put themselves on four points after two group games, following their opening victory over Malawi.

The Liverpool midfielder’s performance came hours after his club manager, Jurgen Klopp, paid tribute to him at Friday’s press conference to preview Sunday’s Premier League clash at Anfield against Brentford.

While a lot of the focus has been on absences of star strikers Mane and Mohamed Salah, who is also competing at AFCON, with Egypt, Reds boss Klopp made sure to underline how important Keita is, too.

Klopp, who was faced with questions over Salah and Mane after his Liverpool side drew a blank in the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Arsenal, said: “Naby, on his day, is one of the best midfielders I’ve ever seen.”

After two positive results, Keita will lead Guinea into their final group game against Zimbabwe next Tuesday, knowing a place in the round of 16 is within reach.

Mane’s Senegal also sit on four points.
